Nationwide recently released a helpful list of how
businesses can avoid many commercial insurance claims. The list was divided
into several categories—many of which the average business owner wouldn’t have
thought of as a claims risk—where business owners often face claims. The list
included areas such as claims related to improper lighting, stair related
accidents and falls, spill and wet floor related claims, floor and carpet
related claims, outdoor walkway and parking lot claims, and miscellaneous
claims.
While the list included many helpful tips on avoiding
claims, some of the most helpful included tips such as regularly checking
restrooms and refrigerator areas for water spills—a rule that can be applied to
most any area, and avoiding the use of extension cords in public areas.
Following tips such as those offered by Nationwide can
greatly help to reduce commercial insurance claims, but unfortunately, it
likely can’t prevent them altogether. If you find yourself dealing with a claim
you don’t know how to handle, contact HC Adjusters for help.
